Tendinitis Symptoms
Repetitive motions or injury can cause inflammation and swelling of the tendons (“tennis elbow”). The tendons become stiff and painful.
Other conditions may resemble tendinitis so it is important to consult a medical professional for a proper diagnosis.
The most common way of treating tendinitis is the “RICE” method: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. With proper care, tendinitis can heal in two weeks, and may include ultrasound treatment or physical therapy. However, more chronic cases may take up to six weeks to heal. To deal with the pain of tendinitis, some medications were found useful.
Tendinitis Treatments
Aspirin
Aspirin, well known for its effectiveness in managing all kinds of pain, has proven helpful for many people suffering from tendinitis.
Aspirin is not for everyone. Due to the risk of Reye’s Syndrome, Aspirin is not recommended for children and teenagers, especially if they are ill. Aspirin can also cause stomach bleeding in children or adults, especially those who consume alcohol or tobacco.
You should consult a doctor before treating your tendinitis. Aspirin may not be the proper treatment for you. If you suffer from pre-existing conditions or take other medications, your doctor needs to check if Aspirin is a safe treatment for you.
Tylenol
Many doctors recommend Tylenol to combat tendinitis pain. It is an extremely popular over-the-counter pain reliever that almost everyone has taken at least once. It has been effective in managing tendinitis pain for many people.
Tylenol being processed in the liver, it could be poisonous to take excessive doses. It can also cause problems to people suffering from liver disease or those who have liver damage. The active ingredient, acetaminophen, is also part of many other products so taking Tylenol at the same time may cause an overdose.
You should visit your doctor before treating your tendinitis yourself. Your doctor is capable of suggesting a proper treatment that is right for you based on your medical history.
Depo-Medrol
Depo-Medrol is the most powerful drug we suggest to alleviate severe tendinitis pain in more serious cases. It works on the immune system, suppressing its responses that cause inflammation.
Depo-Medrol can only be used short-term. One can get great relief from pain with Depo-Medrol but as a powerful drug it comes with certain risks of side effects. If you develop any strange side effects or odd sensations during your treatment with Depo-Medrol, consult your doctor right away. If you have underlying medical problems or take other medications, Depo-Medrol can be downright dangerous.
Vaccinations or skin tests should be avoided until you can speak to a doctor about the effects of taking Depo-Medrol at the same time. Also, don’t start taking new drugs. You must have a proper assessment from your doctor including your medical history to find out if Depo-Medrol is right for you. It is very important to follow your doctor’s instructions closely.
If used safely with doctor’s instructions followed carefully, Depo-Medrol offers strong pain relief, even if there are risks of negative side effects.
